What happened to a black man beaten nearly to death in a auto parts store in Cleveland, MS

Updated: Apr 3, 2022

On Friday, April 1st, 2022 Antonio Hollingsworth was beaten nearly to death by four white men while locked inside a NAPA auto parts store after they accused Hollingsworth of stealing.

So far there has not been any official statement from Cleveland, MS Police Department nor the Bolivar County Sheriff's Office as of late and Hollingsworth has not been listed on any known jail booking records.

I spoke with a family member which told me that Hollingsworth was taken in handcuffs first to Bolivar Medical Center in Cleveland, MS then transported to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS which is over 2 hours south of Cleveland, MS where the incident occurred. According to Hollingsworth, when the first hospital, Bolivar Medical Center couldn't reconstruct his face, he was released from Cleveland police custody and transported to the second hospital in Jackson where Hollingsworth was released with a prescription and sent home on a Greyhound bus back to Cleveland, MS.

Very little information is currently available due to Hollingsworth attorney wanting to keep aspects of the story confidential while its being investigated and no official statements from the Cleveland MS Police Department at this time.

Sharita Wysinger Brown and TEA Time discuss what happened to Antonio Hollingsworth on a Facebook Live 4/3/2022.
